Activating, Deactivating and Editing Special Offers:
Path, from the left navigation menu: ['Promotional Tools' section] > Special Offers
Special offers are regular price-reduced/special mechanic products negotiated by Spoken Network on your behalf for the coming month. This might be a 'buy-one-get-one-free' deal, a 'Spend $20 and get this product for $1' deal, straight price discounts or any other kind of offer. Within the Partner Administration site you can quickly make a choice of six offers from that month's selection, which will immediately feature on your Special Offers page (accessed from the header tabbed-menu on your site). You might also consider creating a custom page highlighting your offer of the month (highlighting one of your selected six titles)
To load the Special Offers page, in order to choose and activate/deactivate special offers for the audio books, you need to select the link entitled "Special Offers" under the Promotional Tools section of the left navigation menu, as shown here:
Fig. 2.6.3.1: The "Special Offers" link from the left navigation menu:
This will load the special offers page, shown below:
Fig. 2.6.3.2: The "Special Offers" page from which you can choose and activate/deactivate special offers:
This page holds the offers that Spoken Network have negotiated with our partner publishers each and every month.
From this page you can activate up to six titles from the full list of offers. You can also deactivate titles currently on offer, and select other titles as you require. If you do not select six titles on a particular month (perhaps you forget to update your offers one month), then our system will automatically select a random six from that particular month’s list of offers.
The offers are presented in an easy to understand table, with two sections: "Active Offers for November" (the current month in our example) and "Available Offers".
The "Available Offers" section displays the following columns: Title of the audio book, Price, the "activate" link and the "edit" link. To activate a certain title, you just need to click on the "activate" link for that title. Once you click on this link, that title will be moved in the "Active Offers for November" section, as shown below:
Fig. 2.6.3.3: The "Active Offers for November" is being updated each time you click on the "activate" link for an audio book:
The "Active Offers for November" section displays the same columns like the "Available Offers" section, with one exception. The "activate" link is being replaced with the "deactivate" link. Which means that if you want to deactivate an offer, you just need to click on the "deactivate" link and the selected title will be moved back to the "Available Offers" section.
Once you activate six titles, the system will gray-out the "activate" links for the other titles, as shown below:
Fig. 2.6.3.4: The "activate" links for the rest of the titles will become inactive:
You also have the option to edit the heading and the description of an audio book from the special offers list. To do this, you just need to click on the "edit" link or directly on the title of the audio book. Once you do this, a new page will load, as you can see below:
Fig. 2.6.3.5: The screen/page from which you can edit the heading and the description of an audio book:
This page contains items that cannot be edited (like Title, Publisher and Offer Price) and two items that are editable (Heading and Description).
Heading This is the heading of the specific special offer. We will usually place a corresponding heading here, but you can change it as desired.
Description This is the description of the specific special offer. Again, you will find a pre-written description here, but you have the freedom to change it as you need.
The input box here is in HTML format - you should not simply enter unformatted text here as it will cause problems when viewing your page. You have three options as regards inserting your desired HTML into this field, namely; 1) Edit the HTML code directly, by clicking the 'source' button in the edit area, and then entering your HTML code in the window that appears. 2) Use the in-built WYSIWYG Editor (more on which below) 3) Use a third party HTML authoring application, then copy & paste your finished HTML into the HTML edit box, again loaded by clicking the 'source' button.
This versatile feature enables you to get a really custom look and feel about the major editorial sections of your site - you can even incorporate graphics into your page (although you will have to use absolute http:// paths to your graphics as they will need to be located on your own, personal web space, off the Spoken Network System - not a problem so long as they are small enough not to slow the page-load).
WYSIWYG editor To make editing your HTML as easy and intuitive as possible, we've included a 'what you see is what you get' HTML page editor for you to use - right off the page! This gives you a really simple view of exactly how your page text will appear, without having to get into the HTML coding side of things.
This inbuilt HTML editor is designed to give you straightforward control over the layout of the main text in the Special Page you're currently editing. The editor is designed to be intuitive to anyone who is familiar with standard word processing editing options, but for those who are not, you can access a special help page entirely on the features of the editor window, the page that follows this one, entitled: "WYSIWYG Editor".
You can also notice two buttons at the bottom of the screen from which you can edit the heading and description of a special offer audio book. Their functions are as follows:
"Cancel" Button: This button allows you to return to the Special Offers page without saving any changes you may have just made to the heading or description of the special offer audio book. If, for example, you change your mind, you can abandon your proposed changes by clicking the "Cancel" button. Only clicking the "Save Changes" button (details of which are below) will you commit your changes.
"Save Changes" Button: This button saves any changes you might have made to the heading or description of the special offer audio book, and then will return you to the Special Offers page.
On the Special Offer page, above the section named "Active Offer for November" (the current month in our example), you can also notice a link named "Show next month's offers".
Fig. 2.6.3.6: The "Show next month's offers" link:
By clicking on this link, you will be presented a screen similar to the one holding the special offers for the current month.
Fig. 2.6.3.7: The "Special Offers" page for the next month:
All the options are identical, so if there are any special offers for the next month on the page, you can activate, deactivate or edit them in advance for the following month.
To return to the page holding the special offers for the current month, you need to click on the link titled "Show this month's offers".
